Sam Nombe returns to MK Dons after joining from Rotherham

Striker Sam Nombe has returned to MK Dons after signing for the League One club from Rotherham United.

Nombe returns to Milton Keynes 5 years on from leaving the club where he began his career, with the 27-year-old moving after Rotherham’s relegation and the Dons’ promotion last summer.

The striker has signed a contract of undisclosed length at Stadium MK after moving for an undisclosed fee.

Nombe had previously made 46 appearances for the MK Dons first team after graduating from the club’s youth ranks before leaving in 2021 to join Exeter City.

After scoring 27 goals in 85 appearances for the side from Devon, Nombe joined a Rotherham side then-managed by current MK Dons boss Paul Warne. In 3 seasons in South Yorkshire, he scored 31 in 122 games for the Millers.

The deal sees Nombe become MK Dons’ fifth new signing ahead of their League One return, following the arrivals of Charlie Goode, Cohen Bramall, Daniel Barlaser and Ryan Wintle.

Warne told the official MK Dons website that he felt Nombe would be the right fit for his blueprints in the new season.

He said, “Sam is a forward I’ve always liked who doesn’t give a moment’s peace to the opposition’s back line.

“He thrives off crosses which I like my team to excel at. He’s physical, confident and has consistently scored goals at this level.

“His work rate for the team is also to be applauded. He improves a very strong department of our squad.

“I still believe there is more to come from Sam with the supply and support he will get from this team and staff.

“It was one of the easiest negotiations I’ve ever done with a player as his heart was set on coming back to the city to play for this great club.

“We have tried to sign players this summer with patience but quality, ones who improve the squad and have excelled at the level, Sam is the definition of that.”
