Red Bull confirm Liam Lawson to continue with team at Spanish Grand Prix

Red Bull have confirmed that Liam Lawson is to remain with the team for this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix race as a stand-in for the injured Isack Hadjar.

Hadjar has not raced in either of the last two Grand Prix after suffering a wrist injury during F1’s summer break, with the French driver now set to miss a third straight race.

Lawson, who drove for Racing Bulls in the first half of the season, will continue to deputise for Hadjar at this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix, which takes place at a new track on the outskirts of Madrid.

In his two races deputising, Lawson finished 7th at the Dutch Grand Prix and 14th at last weekend’s Italian Grand Prix, where he had problems with car damage.

Yuki Tsunoda will again race for Racing Bulls at the Madring, with the Japanese driver having scored a point in the last round at Monza.

Red Bull have not confirmed if Hadjar will be fit to return for the next Grand Prix after Spain, which takes place in Azerbaijan on 26 September.

In a statement on social media, Red Bull said, “After racing for the team in Zandvoort and Monza, Liam will continue to drive alongside Max at this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid.

“The decision has been taken as Isack’s recovery continues to progress positively. While he is not yet ready to return to the cockpit, he will be in Madrid supporting the team.

“Everyone at Oracle Red Bull Racing looks forward to welcoming Isack back behind the wheel very soon.”
