Former MK Dons star Troy Parrott makes big money move to Real Betis

Former MK Dons star Troy Parrott has made a big money move from AZ Alkmaar to Real Betis.

The 24-year-old moved last week to the side from Seville for an undisclosed fee reportedly around 20 million Euros, with the Irishman signing a five-year contract to move to Andalusia.

Parrott has since made his debut for Real Betis, coming on as a substitute in their win away at Valencia in midweek. His debut saw him come close to a debut goal before playing a role in helping to set up a winning goal scored by Pablo Garcia.

The striker had been linked with a move for most of the summer, including a recurring link to Championship side West Ham, but the Irish international will instead play for a side who finished 5th in La Liga last season and will take part in this season’s Champions League.

In a post on Instagram, Parrott voiced his delight to make the move. He said, “Very happy to be apart of this huge club, can’t wait to get going and to make special memories here”

Parrott previously spent the 2021/22 season on loan with MK Dons from previous club Spurs, playing regular football for a side that finished third in League One that season. He scored 10 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions, including a late equaliser against AFC Wimbledon and a goal on his final appearance for MK Dons in the play-offs against Wycombe Wanderers.

Since then, Parrott had further loan spells at Preston North End and Excelsior before being sold by Spurs to AZ Alkmaar. He would score 30 league goals in 59 appearances for the Dutch side, while he also earned acclaim for his work with the Irish national team, including scoring 5 goals in 2 games against Portugal and Hungary to help Ireland qualify to the World Cup play-offs.
