MK Dons have announced the signing of Ryan Barnett, who joins the club on loan from Wrexham.

The 26-year-old, who can play as a wing-back or winger, has signed a season-long loan at Stadium MK to join the Dons from the Championship side.

Barnett becomes the Dons’ seventh new signing of the summer transfer window, and their first loan signature.

After signing from Solihull in 2023, Barnett made 112 appearances in all competitions for the Red Dragons, playing a key role as Wrexham won three straight promotions to rise from the National League to the Championship.

He also has EFL experience with his hometown club Shrewsbury Town, where he made his professional debut.

MK Dons Head Coach Paul Warne told the club’s official side that Barnett was a target he’d tried to sign before and that he was looking forward to working with him.

He said, “Ryan’s a player that I tried to sign before. He’s a really athletic wing-back who wants to cross the ball.

“He wants to run forward with the ball, which is right up our street and gives us another attacking option out wide.

“I spoke to him at length about how we train and play, which suits him, and I got a couple of personality quotes off his manager and off two players that used to play for me, who have been his teammates.

“I’m really happy to have him on board, as he will definitely aid that side of the pitch. It’s great news, and I look forward to working with him and watching him play in the coming weeks.”
