A 24-hour pickleball festival is taking place in Milton Keynes this weekend, bringing together players of all abilities to raise money and awareness for MK Food Bank.
Local pickleball club MK Smashers has teamed up with the Mayor of Milton Keynes to organise the charity event, which begins at 8am on Friday 30 October and continues through the night until 8am on Saturday 31 October.
The festival will take place at Woughton Leisure Centre in Leadenhall, with organisers inviting individuals, groups of friends and teams to take part in the sporting challenge.
Whether you're an experienced pickleball player or have never picked up a paddle before, everyone is welcome to get involved.
Pickleball is a rapidly growing sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. Played on a smaller court, it's an accessible and sociable activity suitable for people of different ages and fitness levels.
Supporting families across Milton Keynes
The event has been organised at the request of the Mayor of Milton Keynes to support MK Food Bank, which provides vital emergency food supplies to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship.
The charity plays an important role in supporting local people facing difficult circumstances, helping to ensure that those struggling to afford food can access essential supplies when they need them most.
By bringing the local community together through sport, MK Smashers hopes to raise both valuable funds and greater awareness of the charity's work.
How to get involved
Organisers are encouraging as many people as possible to take part during the 24-hour festival, with opportunities for both experienced players and complete beginners.
Participants can register individually or as a team, with playing opportunities available throughout the day and night. There's no need to play for the full 24 hours.
Even those who don't fancy getting on the court can help make a difference.
MK Smashers is appealing to local businesses, organisations and members of the public to support the event by providing refreshments for players, donating food items to the collection point at Woughton Leisure Centre or making a financial contribution to MK Food Bank on the day.
Donated food will help the charity continue providing essential support to families and individuals across Milton Keynes.
The club is also offering to acknowledge businesses and organisations supporting the fundraiser through its social media channels.
