Woman sentenced for child cruelty and battery in Milton Keynes

A woman has been sentenced for an incident of child cruelty and battery in Milton Keynes. 

Ramana Potumudi, 58, of no fixed abode pleaded guilty to one count of cause assault/ill treatment/neglect/abandonment of a child or young person to cause unnecessary suffering/injury at Aylesbury Crown Court on 21 January 2026. 

At the same court on Tuesday 9 June, Potumudi was sentenced to one year and nine months imprisonment.  

On 27 November 2025, Potumudi repeatedly assaulted the victim, who Thames Valley Police identified as a young baby girl, in Milton Keynes. The victim did not suffer any injuries. 

Potumudi was arrested on 21 December and subsequently charged the same day. 

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Aimee Mortimer-Bush said, “I am pleased that Ramana Potumudi has taken responsibility for the serious harm she caused to a tiny, defenceless baby which luckily did not result in injuries. 

“I would like to thank the victim’s family for coming forward to bring justice in this case. Sadly, we have seen all too many instances in recent times of children being harmed by the very people who should be keeping them safe. 

“I hope with this sentence sends a strong message to the public that Thames Valley Police will continue to investigate crimes of this nature robustly. 

“I would urge anyone who is concerned about the welfare of a child to report it to the police or NSPCC.”
