Red Bull confirm Lawson to remain with team for Italian Grand Prix as Hadjar remains sidelined

Red Bull have confirmed that Liam Lawson will remain with the team for the Italian Grand Prix as Isack Hadjar remains absent.

Hadjar missed the Dutch Grand Prix in F1’s last race after suffering a wrist injury during the sport’s summer break, and the team have confirmed his injury remains bad enough to sideline him for at least this weekend’s race at Monza.

The move means that New Zealand driver Lawson will continue to deputise as Max Verstappen’s teammate for the following race. Lawson scored points in Zandvoort last time out, finishing the race in 7th.

Yuki Tsunoda will also remain at Racing Bulls in Lawson’s usual seat, with the Japanese driver partnering Arvid Lindlad at Red Bull’s Italy-based junior team in their home race.

The Milton Keynes-based team have not confirmed if Hadjar’s injury will also keep him out of the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid, which will take place a week later.

Red Bull said in a statement, “Liam will drive alongside Max at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza while Isak continues to make encouraging progress following the wrist injury sustained during the summer break.

“The Team is closely monitoring his rehabilitation and will take no unnecessary risks with his return to competition and wishes him a speedy recovery.”
