Former MK Dons boss Scott Lindsey appointed new boss of York City

Former MK Dons boss Scott Lindsey has returned to management as the new boss of League 2 newcomers York City.

Lindsey has replaced Stuart Maynard, who was controversially sacked yesterday (26/06) after what York described as “a difference in direction and vision for the football club” just 3 months after winning the National League title.

The 54-year-old former Dons boss has signed a contract of undisclosed length at York, with his first game in charge being in a Carabao Cup play-off against his former club Crawley on August 3rd.

Lindsey had joined MK Dons in September 2024, with the move coming just 4 months after his Crawley side beat MK Dons 8-1 on aggregate on their way to winning the League 2 play-offs. He replaced Mike Williamson after the then-Dons boss left the club to take a job as manager of Carlisle United.

After a positive start, things unravelled for Lindsey at Stadium MK, with the Dons choosing to sack Lindsey in March 2025 after they picked up just 9 points from a possible 48 and drifted all the way down from the automatic promotion places in League 2 to 17th in the table.

Following his departure from Milton Keynes, Lindsey returned to Crawley, but would be sacked in March after a ten match winless run saw Crawley in grave danger of back-to-back relegations.

Lindsey confirmed that he will be assisted by assistant manager Joao Alves and first-team coach Gary Elphick as part of his set up at the LNER Community Stadium.
