Tributes have poured in from football clubs, teammates and supporters across the country following the tragic death of 26-year-old footballer Ezekiel Williams, who died after being assaulted in Central Milton Keynes.

Ezekiel, affectionately known as ‘Eze’, suffered serious injuries during an incident on Midsummer Boulevard, near The Hub, in the early hours of Sunday 1 November. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he died in hospital on Monday 2 November.

Thames Valley Police have launched a murder investigation, with three men arrested in connection with the incident.

As news of his death has spread, the football community has come together to remember a talented young player whose kindness, generosity and passion for helping others made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Hendon FC leads tributes to popular midfielder

Ezekiel joined Hendon Football Club in September and quickly became a popular member of the squad.

The club described him as a humble, generous and funny individual whose selfless attitude was reflected in his performances on the pitch.

Just ten days before his death, Ezekiel had scored his first goal for Hendon in a match against Jersey Bulls.

Hendon manager Adam Fisher expressed his devastation at the news, remembering Ezekiel as a kind and generous teammate and a talented footballer.

Club secretary Jeremy Lawrence also recalled Ezekiel's warmth and humility, remembering how welcoming he had been when club representatives visited his home to sign him.

As a mark of respect, Hendon postponed its London Senior Cup fixture against Woodford Town, which had been scheduled for Wednesday 4 November.

Tributes from across the football community

Messages of condolence have extended far beyond Hendon, with clubs across the country paying their respects.

St Ives Town FC, where Ezekiel played before joining Hendon, expressed its devastation at the loss of a popular former player.

Marlow FC also paid tribute, sending condolences to his parents, family and friends, while Jersey Bulls, the team he had scored against just days earlier, shared its sadness.

Hartley Wintney FC, Slough Town FC, Poole Town FC, Wembley FC, Hayes & Yeading United and the Essex Senior League have also been among those offering messages of sympathy and support.

The outpouring of tributes reflects the impact Ezekiel made throughout his football career and the many friendships he formed along the way.

Remembered for helping others

Beyond his achievements on the pitch, Ezekiel is being remembered for his commitment to helping other young footballers fulfil their potential.

He worked with Journey of a Pro (JOAP), supporting children and aspiring players as they developed their skills, confidence and ambitions within the sport.

One particularly touching tribute came from London Colney manager Matty Day, who recalled how Ezekiel had contacted him earlier in the season to recommend another player, despite the two barely knowing each other.

Friends and family have also spoken of Ezekiel's strong Christian faith, infectious positivity and genuine desire to see others succeed.

Milton Keynes clubs consider minute's silence

Closer to home, football teams in Milton Keynes are discussing plans to hold a minute's silence ahead of matches this weekend in Ezekiel's memory.

Although arrangements have yet to be confirmed, the gesture would give players, coaches and supporters an opportunity to come together and pay their respects.

A fundraising appeal has also been established to help Ezekiel's family with funeral arrangements and give him a fitting farewell.

At just 26 years old, Ezekiel had dreams of progressing further in football and had already made a significant difference to the lives of those around him.

His death has left family, friends, teammates and the wider football community mourning the loss of a talented footballer and much-loved young man.
