MK Dons have announced they will begin the new season wearing a logo promoting Milton Keynes’ bid to the 2029 City of Culture.
With the Dons yet to secure a front-of-shirt sponsor for the new season, the Dons have announced that they will wear the official logo of the bid for their matches in August and September, beginning with today’s (08/08) Carabao Cup tie against Norwich City.
The club also confirmed that, from Monday 10th August, there will be a limited number of ‘Milton Keynes 2029 – City of Culture’ logos available free of charge to fans who would like to have the design applied to their Dons’ 2026/27 replica shirts.
Milton Keynes was previously longlisted in March, alongside eight other cities, for the UK City of Culture title, which is administered by the UK Government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport and awarded once every four years.
The successful city will be awarded a £10 million cash prize and with it, host a series of culture-led festivities across the city for a calendar year. A final shortlist of four finalists will be chosen later this year, with the winning city selected early next year.
Neil Hart, Group CEO of Milton Keynes Dons and Stadium MK said, “On behalf of our Chairman Fahad Al-Ghanim and Board of Directors, we are delighted to place our whole-hearted support behind this exciting bid to become the UK’s City of Culture 2029.
“We know this is a city with so much to offer – it is brimming with innovation, creativity and culture. We are proud to lend our voices to these impressive efforts to rightly place Milton Keynes on a national and global stage.
“We hope our players donning the logo on their shirts throughout August and September will help to raise awareness of the city’s campaign and, in turn, garner further support for this incredible opportunity for everyone in Milton Keynes.”
Leader of Milton Keynes City Council, Cllr Jane Carr, added, “We’re grateful to MK Dons for backing the City of Culture 2029 campaign in such a visible way.
“This is a city with big ambitions, and we’re just getting started in showcasing the creativity, innovation and cultural energy that make Milton Keynes unique.
“We hope fans across the city will get behind the bid and help us tell our story on a national stage.”
