MK City Council reveal over £1million provided in crisis support to local residents

Milton Keynes City Council revealed that more than £1 million in crisis support was provided to local residents last year.

The City Council said their funding was helping thousands of people facing financial hardship access essentials such as food, heating, energy and household goods at a time when the cost of living continues to put pressure on household budgets.

Milton Keynes City Council said they are providing a vital safety net for residents who are at risk of reaching a financial crisis point, with the funding assisting struggling local residents cover essential costs such as utility payments, emergency food, replacing broken white goods and other household essentials, as well as emergency accommodation.

The support is part of the city council’s wider commitment to creating safe, healthy and caring communities, ensuring residents can access the help they need to stay well and remain independent.

For many residents, a crisis can be triggered by an unexpected bill, a broken cooker or fridge, a family emergency or a sudden change in personal circumstances. In these instances, the city council provides practical assistance that helps people through challenging moments and prevents short-term problems from becoming longer-term hardships.

In highlighting the work their funds provided, the City Council said, “Behind every application for support is a person or family facing a difficult situation. Nobody should choose between heating their home and putting food on the table, or struggle without essential household items because they simply can’t afford to replace them.”

The City Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Communities, Cllr Donna Fuller, said, “Last year we provided more than £1 million in crisis support to residents across Milton Keynes. Whether it’s helping someone keep the lights on, replace a broken appliance or feed their family, this funding provides a helping hand at a time when people need it most.”

“We know that cost of living pressures haven’t gone away. That’s why we’re continuing to stand alongside residents experiencing hardship and investing in services that make a real difference. This is about creating a city where everyone is valued, feels safe and has the opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilling life.”
