Man jailed after causing injury by careless driving at unauthorised car meet in Milton Keynes

A man has been sentenced for causing injury by careless driving at an unauthorised car meet event in Milton Keynes.

Issac Osbourne-Walker, 28, of Goldington Road, Bedford, was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court on Friday 26 June to 1 year and 4 months in prison.

Osbourne-Walker was found guilty by a jury during a four-day trial from 28 April until 1 May. During the same trial, he was found not guilty of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

On 21 January this year, Osbourne-Walker attended an unauthorised car meet on the A421 Standing Way, Milton Keynes. He was driving a BMW M3 which was involved in a three-vehicle collision towards the Bottledump roundabout.

The collision involved a pedestrian, a man in his twenties, who received serious injuries as a result of Osbourne-Walker’s careless driving.

Roads Policing Chief Inspector Jade Hewitt said, “This case demonstrates how quickly lives can be changed as a result of careless driving. The victim suffered serious injuries and the impact of what happened will be felt long after the collision itself.

“Unauthorised car meets and cruises can create significant risks, particularly when large numbers of people gather close to moving vehicles. Drivers have a responsibility to ensure their actions do not put others in danger, and spectators should be aware that situations can escalate in a split second.

“We will continue to work with our partners to tackle illegal and anti-social driving, and I hope this sentence serves as a reminder of the potentially devastating consequences when standards of driving fall below what is expected on our roads.”
