Luton confirm two matches postponed for international call-ups

Luton Town have confirmed the postponement of two matches due to international call-ups.

The Hatters confirmed their games against Huddersfield Town on September 26 and Doncaster Rovers on October 3 will be rescheduled, with both games originally planned to be played in the new expanded two week international break.

The double postponement means that Luton will not play a league match between their game against Bradford City on September 19 and their trip to Wycombe on October 10.

Luton said in a statement, “We have received notification that at least three of our players will be called up for their countries, based on the new criteria introduced this season in an attempt to reduce the number of games being called off unnecessarily.

“In order to eliminate the opportunity for clubs to use a senior call-up towards a potential postponement request, despite them not playing regular matches, these players must now have been named in the starting XI or a named substitute making an appearance prior to the 75th minute in either 50% of their Club’s first team matches to date or in 4 of the Club’s last 5 first team matches.”

The Hatters confirmed they will still play two EFL Trophy games in that time period, which are due to be against the Ipswich academy side in late September and away at Colchester in early October.
