Local teenagers invited to attend Big Park Hangout at Willen Lake in MK next month

The Parks Trust is inviting local young people to attend the latest edition of the Big Park Hangout to Willen Lake, which takes place on Saturday 5 September.

The free event is designed especially for people age 11-17 and is set to bring together a mix of activities, entertainment and chances for teenagers to connect with their community. Young people can explore everything from arts and culture to sport, health, wellbeing and safety services, with creative experiences, live performances and hands-on fun taking place throughout the afternoon.

Teens can drop-off their adults in the parent/carer area to hangout with their mates while they go on having their own fun and games.

From stencil spray painting sessions and hip-hop dance workshops to yoga, badge making, a photobooth, and inflatable games, there’ll be loads to do including a free climbing wall sponsored by Campbell Park Community Council.

Attendees can also experience games to play and prizes to win, including Willen Lake experiences such as pedalo passes and free adventure golf as well as discounted Willen Observation Wheel rides. Hungry tummies can enjoy street food courtesy of Little Oven of Joy pizza, Better Thank Mamma’s, Howe & Co Fish and Chips and Gutbuster Food Bar.

There’ll also be opportunities to discover career pathways and meet local organisations such as PACA (Parents and Carers Alliance), Community Action MK and VICTA that support young people across Milton Keynes.

Visitors can also head to the main stage to be entertained by ACT NOW Creative Youth CIC, The Childish and more, plus you’ll be able to soak up the festival vibes in a hammock at the chill-out zone.

No booking is required for the main event, making it easy for young people to drop in and try something new in a welcoming afternoon at Willen Lake. Sandra Adjei, Events Assistant at The Parks Trust, said, “Big Park Hangout is all about giving young people in Milton Keynes a free, welcoming space where they can spend time with friends, try something new and feel connected to their community. We’re excited to welcome everyone to hangout, explore what the city has to offer, and find out about the services available to young city residents”

With youth provision under pressure, Big Park Hangout plays an important role in bringing young people together and strengthening community bonds. This year, the Big Park Hangout is backed by a £10,000 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund demonstrating the event’s alignment with priorities to reduce isolation, improve wellbeing and empower communities.

The National Lottery Community Fund grant has enabled The Parks Trust to also organise a free-to-ride shuttle for families without access to a car or public transport.
