Free event to be held to celebrate ten years of Floodplain Forest Nature Reserve on outskirts of MK

A free event is set to be held later this month to celebrate the 10th birthday of Floodplain Forest Nature Reserve on the outskirts of Milton Keynes to mark Love Wetlands Day.

On Friday 21 August 2026, from 12pm to 4pm, the park will be free to explore with wildlife discovery, hands-on activities and outdoor fun for everyone to enjoy.

Visitors of all ages can enjoy a range of crafts and activities, discover more about local habitats and species, meet wildlife organisations, and learn how they can help protect and support nature across Milton Keynes.

Love Wetlands Day offers a unique opportunity to explore one of Milton Keynes’ most important nature reserves while celebrating the diverse wildlife that calls the city’s wetlands home. From self-guided trails and nature-themed crafts like heritage weaving to outdoor wellbeing sessions and getting to know local organisations.

There’ll be lots of inspiration (for young and old minds) with wildlife insights from Butterfly Conservation, Wolverton Swifts, the Woodland Trust, and the Dragonfly Society as well as activities with MK Arts Centre, MK NHS, and an artwork gallery created by residents from Camphill Communities.

Love Wetlands Day is designed with families in mind. No booking is required, making it easy for residents and visitors alike to drop in and join the celebrations. Accessibility support will also be provided, including accessible toilet facilities and the availability of an off-road mobility scooter provided by the Disabled Ramblers, allowing more people to explore the reserve during the event.
