Fire crews from Milton Keynes attend major field fire on edge of Buckingham as two arrested

Firefighters from Milton Keynes were among those in attendance at a major field fire on the edge of Buckingham, for which two children have been arrested.

The blaze was reported just before 5pm yesterday (29/07) in a field adjacent to the A413 on the outskirts of Buckingham heading towards Padbury, with Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue confirming that crews from Buckingham, West Ashland, Broughton and Aylesbury attended the scene, alongside a water carrier, a wildfire unit and three officers.

The incident was a field fire involving hedgerow and straw bales. Firefighters used four hose reel jets and a thermal imaging camara and the farmers bowser to extinguish the fire and check for hot spots, with crews from Buckingham later reinspecting the scene during the evening.

Thames Valley Police later confirmed on social media that they had arrested two juveniles on suspicion of arson in connection with the incident.

The police force said, “Yesterday evening, emergency services attended a significant field fire adjacent to A413 London Road, Buckingham, which required the attendance of eight fire appliances.

“The fire affected an area of approximately 200m x 200m and caused extensive damage to farmland, hedgerows and a number of hay bales.

“Following initial enquiries, two juveniles were arrested on suspicion of arson and have since been bailed.

“We would like to thank members of the public who assisted at the scene and remind everyone of the serious consequences that fires can have, particularly during periods of dry weather when they can spread rapidly and endanger people, property, and wildlife.
