Milton Keynes Lightning are thrilled to announce the return of forward Toms Rutkis for the 2026/27 season.

A proven difference-maker in Lightning colours, Rutkis returns to MK determined to make his mark after an injury-hit campaign last year. Once back on the ice, the talented forward quickly reminded fans exactly what he brings, pace, power and a nose for goal.

Across three seasons with the Lightning, the Riga-born forward has racked up 113 regular season appearances, scoring 45 goals and adding 45 assists for 90 points, underlining his reputation as one of the club’s most reliable offensive weapons.

Standing at 6’0”, Rutkis blends skill, grit and a dangerous release with a tireless work ethic that makes him effective in every situation. Able to play both right wing and centre, the 28-year-old thrives in the hard areas, creates chances around the crease and competes every single shift.

Rutkis is excited to be back in Milton Keynes and ready to attack the season ahead.

“I’m really happy to be back in Milton Keynes and ready for a strong summer preparing for the season ahead. I’m looking forward to working with Pete again, having worked with him earlier in my career, and continuing to find ways to improve my game. I believe it’s going to be a big year for the Lightning, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Head Coach Pete Russell knows exactly what Rutkis will bring to the team.

“I’m delighted to have Toms back on the team this year. I’ve had the pleasure of coaching Toms before at Okanagan and I know exactly what he brings, grit, a great shot, net-front instincts, and a battle level that shows up every single night. He’s going to contribute consistently for us. I’m looking forward to working with Toms next season.”

Rutkis’ return gives the Lightning another huge boost as preparations continue for the new campaign. With his experience, versatility and proven scoring touch, he is set to play a major role in what promises to be an exciting season in Milton Keynes.

Lightning fans can look forward to seeing #10 back on home ice soon, and back doing what he does best.

Rutkis will continue to wear his number 10 jersey for the 2026/27 season. Supporters will have the opportunity to Own and Loan his jersey now.  Please email dave@b2promodesign.com, stating the jersey type – Light, Dark, Warm-Up or any.
