MK City Council reveal details of investment into Milton Keynes College to boost studies

MK College is set to receive £410,000 from Milton Keynes City Council to deliver specialist training for adults in health and social care, construction, logistics and the creative industries.

New courses at MK College will be available from September courtesy of the funding with the idea that they will help more residents gain industry-specific skills, progress into skilled employment and access further education.

MK City Council said the scheme is intended to supplement the Community Learning team, widely known as CLMK, which provides a range of English, maths, employability, early years and other entry-level courses geared to help local adults into work, or to find better jobs.

The investment originally comes from the Government’s Adult Skills Fund, of which £1.04million was awarded to Milton Keynes City Council to help residents gain qualifications, develop workplace skills and access new employment opportunities. The City Council selected MK College to help it deliver local adult education due to its specialist facilities, proven expertise and strong links with local employers.

Councillor Peter Cannon, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said, “Our adult learning team plays a vital role in helping residents gain new skills and improve their career prospects. By working with MK College, we’re ensuring residents can get the right support and training they need to succeed, while helping local employers find a home-grown skilled workforce.

“We will continue to provide a broad range of high-quality courses, from essential English and maths skills through to specialist training in sectors that are important to our local economy.”
