Former MK Dons manager Karl Robinson has returned to management after being appointed the new boss of the Dons’ fellow League One side Bromley.

Robinson, 46, returns after leaving Salford City at the end of last season and he has signed a “long-term contract” of undisclosed length to take over at the Ravens.

The former Dons, Charlton, Oxford and Salford boss replaces Andy Woodman, who was dismissed earlier this month after last season’s League Two champions made a slow start to their first ever campaign in the third tier.

Bromley currently sit bottom of the table, though they are just three points from safety after 13 matches of the new campaign.

Robinson’s first match in charge will see Bromley host Rotherham in the FA Cup on Saturday (07/11), taking on a Millers team managed by his former assistant boss Alex Bruce. Robinson’s second game in charge will provide a reunion with his former club MK Dons in the EFL Trophy a few days later.

Bromley chairman Robin Stanton-Gleaves told the club’s official website that Robinson was an outstanding candidate to take the position.

He said, “Karl brings an elite level of experience, tactical acumen, and a proven track record of competing at the sharp end of League One.

“His relentless energy matches our ambition perfectly, and we are unified in our vision to drive this football club forward into an exciting new era.

“I led a full recruitment process, which began the day after our previous manager’s departure. From the outset, my intention was to find someone who had worked at this level and had the experience and qualities to take Bromley Football Club on the next stage of its journey.

“It was important to take the time to work through that process thoroughly, and I am delighted that it has brought us to Karl.”

Robinson previously managed MK Dons for just over six years, which was his first spell as a full-time manager after previously assisting Paul Ince at Stadium MK. He managed six full seasons in charge before leaving in October 2016.

He remains the longest-serving manager in the Dons’ history, achieving a 43% win ratio with 147 wins from 346 games in charge, with highlights including winning promotion from League One to the Championship in the 2014/15 season, in a campaign that also saw the Dons beat Manchester United 4-0 in a Carabao Cup tie.
