Woman found dead in bin bag had no teeth and several medical conditions, police say

Detectives have released details of the medical conditions suffered by a woman whose body was found in a bin bag in a Liverpool park in a bid to identify her.

Merseyside Police said the woman, aged between 60 and 80, was malnourished and had osteoporosis, arthritis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

She also had no teeth, making it impossible use dental records to establish her identity, police said.

A murder investigation was launched after her body was found in a walled garden in Stanley Park, Liverpool, on 28 August.

Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson said: "This woman, we have no name for her. I would love, and I know the investigation team would love, to give her a name and to identify who she is.

"She's been found in a bin bag in a park. It's an appeal from me. Please, if you've got any information about what's happened to this woman, please come forward."

Since appealing for information, officers have eliminated 126 women who people had called about to raise concerns, DS Wilson said.

Police said the woman's body may have been in the park since the first week of July.

DS Wilson added: "This could be someone who has a carer, who lives with a family member, it could be someone who lives on their own. We just don't know.

"But, clearly, she did have a number of medical conditions."

Detectives have watched hundreds of hours of CCTV and carried out about 900 home visits, as well as working with partner agencies and the National Crime Agency to try to trace her.

Police are continuing to speak to people who live near the park, which sits between Liverpool's Anfield stadium and Goodison Park, the former home of Everton.

The woman has been described as white and around 5ft 2in, of small build, and with strawberry blonde hair.

She was found wearing a pink Nike T-shirt.

Police had previously said that they were withholding the results of a post-mortem "for investigative reasons".
