Flat fire in Corby town centre

Update – September 10 – 17:20pm

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service is now leaving the scene of a fire involving a block of flats in Corby town centre.

The fire has been extinguished and smoke has been cleared away from the affected property. A section of Willow Place that had been closed in the town centre has now been reopened to the public.

Three people have been taken to hospital as a precautionary measure after suffering from smoke inhalation.

We would like to thank Corby residents and businesses for their patience and understanding while we dealt with this incident this afternoon.

Update – September 10 – 16:45pm

We are currently at the scene of a fire at a block of flats in Corby town centre.

The Fire Service was called at 3.30pm and on arrival found a fire on the second floor of a three-storey building including both retail premises and residential properties.

The fire has been extinguished, but we currently have three appliances still on scene which are using fans to clear smoke out of the affected property.

One person is being treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

We will remain in the town centre for a while longer and would ask nearby residents and businesses to close their window if they smell smoke.

A section of Willow Place is closed off while we deal with this incident, and we would ask people to avoid the area while we continue to make the scene safe.
