Residents in parts of Milton Keynes are experiencing problems with their water supply today (Friday 23 October), with reports of very low water pressure and discoloured tap water.

Anglian Water has confirmed two separate incidents affecting homes across the city, including Eaglestone and Stony Stratford.

Burst water main in Eaglestone

A burst water main near Standing Way in Eaglestone has caused disruption to local water supplies, with some households experiencing very low water pressure.

Anglian Water engineers are working to resolve the problem, with the company initially estimating that normal service should be restored by 4pm today.

Residents affected by the incident may notice reduced water flow from their taps or interruptions to their supply while repairs are carried out.

Discoloured water in Stony Stratford

Meanwhile, households in Stony Stratford and surrounding areas have been warned that their tap water may appear brown, orange or yellow.

Anglian Water says the discolouration is caused by iron sediment being disturbed inside its network of water pipes.

The company has reassured customers that the iron sediment itself is harmless, although it acknowledges that the appearance of the water can be unpleasant.

Engineers are investigating the cause and may need to flush sections of the water network to remove the sediment and restore normal water quality.

This process involves pushing water through the pipes to clear any accumulated particles.

What should you do if your water is discoloured?

If you're experiencing discoloured tap water, Anglian Water recommends allowing the water to run until it clears. The company also advises avoiding washing clothes while the water is discoloured, as sediment could stain fabrics.

Although iron sediment is generally harmless, you should check with your water supplier before using unexpectedly discoloured water for drinking or cooking.

If the problem continues for more than 24 hours, or your water has an unusual taste or smell, you should contact Anglian Water for advice.

How to check for updates

If you're affected by either incident, you can check the latest information for your postcode through the Anglian Water website, where the company publishes details of ongoing supply interruptions and repair work.

You can also report problems with your water supply directly to Anglian Water or contact its 24-hour emergency helpline on 03457 145 145.

The company has not yet confirmed when the discoloured water issue in Stony Stratford will be fully resolved.
