Northampton Town have confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Lee Burge, who leaves after four years at Sixfields.

Burge made 113 appearances in all competitions after signing for the club from Sunderland in 2022, being first choice for a majority of his time at the club. He made 24 appearances in the just-concluded season.

The Cobblers initially offered Burge an extension to his contract, but following the recent appointment of new manager Chris Hogg, Northampton have instead confirmed Burge is free to leave for a new club.

Hogg told Northampton’s official website that the decision was made with view to signing a new goalkeeper for next season.

He said, “We have decided to go in a different direction in the goalkeeping position and so we have parted company with Lee.

“Lee spent four seasons at the club and played over a hundred games, winning a promotion in that time and it is important that contribution is recognised.

“I am sure all supporters will join me in wishing Lee every success for his future career and thanking him for his time as a Northampton Town player.”
