MK City Council reveal record numbers are taking part in summer holiday programme

Milton Keynes City Council have revealed record numbers are taking part in their summer holiday programme.

An extra 700 children and young people were revealed by the City Council are taking part in their summer Holiday Fun and Food programme, which is the highest number since the scheme began five years ago.

Over the school summer holidays, the City Council is putting on 23,000 free activity sessions plus meals for children and young people who get benefit-related free school meals. It’s designed to give children new experiences, and as a welcome boost for families who might be struggling over the extended school break. This year, around 4,200 children are taking part.

The free activities run until 20 August, and eligible families can book up to 16 places per child. All activities welcome children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Leader of Milton Keynes City Council, Councillor Jane Carr, said, “As well as giving young people access to enriching activities and nutritious meals, the programme helps take some of the pressure off parents and carers by providing safe, engaging opportunities throughout the school holiday. We’re continuing to grow what’s on offer, helping even more families across Milton Keynes.”
