Luton Town maintained their play-off push after a double by Kasey Palmer helped them win 2-0 at already relegated Rotherham United.

Goals at either end of the first half by the in-form Palmer, who has now scored 4 goals in as 5 games, was enough for Luton to make it 10 games unbeaten and continue their pursuit of catching the top 6.

With Stevenage winning in a game also played on Tuesday night, the Hatters remain 3 points off the top 6 side in the third tier, with Jack Wilshere’s side jumping up to 7th in the table with 2 games of the season still to play.

Luton made a fast start at the New York Stadium with a goal inside the opening eight minutes. Palmer received Shayden Morris’ pass picked out Hull loanee Palmer, who duly dispatched a shot into the back of the net.

Davy van den Berg saw a strike kept out by home keeper Ted Cann a few moments later, before ex-Millers man Hakeem Odoffin was in the right place to block a goalbound strike from Rotherham’s Cohen Lee.

Josh Keeley in the Luton goal would make a save to deny a strike from Jamal Baptiste as the home side did try to get back on level terms.

But the visitors would soon apply further pressure and moments after Palmer saw an effort just go over the top, Luton would grab a second goal in the final minutes of the second half.

Space opened up down the flank for Morris, and the winger picked out Palmer, who in turn glanced a header into the back of the net to double Luton’s lead.

Luton could’ve grabbed a third after the break after Cann thwarted Emilio Lawrence and Nahki Wells’ rebound hit the bar.

Rotherham did have chances in their attempts to get a goal back, as Sam Nombe missed the target from close range before substitute Jack Holmes was denied by Keeley.

But Luton did the job to get the win and keep on pressure on Stevenage, who at the same time squeaked out a 1-0 win over Barnsley.

Luton’s final home game of the season follows, with the Hatters hosting Barnsley at Kenilworth Road on Saturday knowing a win is essential to keep their play-off hopes going.
