Local restaurant Nonna's in Woburn Sands announces details of closing down event

Woburn Sands restaurant Nonna’s has announced plans for a closing down event as the popular Woburn Sands previously announced plans to stop trading.

Nonna’s previously announced it would stop operation after 15 years earlier this month, with the restaurant to hold a closing down event on Saturday (03/10).

The closing down event will include DJs in an all day event, which will run from 12pm until close of day.

In their statement on social media, they said, “The doors are closing, but not before we give Nonnas the send-off it deserves. One final day of big tunes, premium drinks, good vibes & unforgettable memories with an all-star lineup bringing the energy from open to close. Raise a glass and come along to say Goodbye to Nonnas and our Team.”

Nonna’s previously announced on September 7 that it would be closing down operations, with the Italian restaurant’s last full day of operations being on October 1.

In their previous statement on social media, they said, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I can confirm the rumours are true.

“I began working on this dream at just 27, determined to create something I could be proud of. Somewhere I could turn off the lights after a long shift, and still be excited to do it all again tomorrow.

“Opening a restaurant built on vision was never going to be easy. Nonna’s took blood, sweat, tears and every penny we had.

“Nearly 15 years have somehow passed. More than 2,000 menus written, more than 7,000 special created, more than 1,500 staff employed, more than 2,000 marketing posts, more than 700,000 bookings, more than 650 events, more than 100,000 special occasions celebrated, more than 80,000 hours dedicated in creating and developing the business, but more memories than I could ever count.

“Behind the smiles, hospitality is fighting for survival. As Tom Kerridge and others have highlighted, 20% VAT, National Insurance, business rates and soaring costs mean that even a full restaurant may no longer be viable.

“Closer to home, a small number of neighbours opposed almost every positive thing we tried to create outside. With their objections repeatedly supported by the local council, it began to feel less like reasonable concern, and more like a personal vendetta against everything we tried to do. Eventually, even the strongest passion becomes exhausted.

“This is not how I wanted this chapter to end. There is sadness, exhaustion, and disappointment. But above all, there is pride. I will always be incredibly proud of what we built and every memory created within these walls.

“Nonna’s may be closing, but what we created together can never be taken away.”
