Arsenal Football Club, the Premier League champions, has drafted in a leading firm of management consultants to explore operational improvements which could trigger a round of cost-cutting.
Sky News has learnt that the Gunners, who were crowned champions in May for the first time in more than 20 years, have been working with BCG on a review of parts of its business in recent weeks.
The review is understood to be being overseen internally by executives including CEO Richard Garlick, who took on the role a year ago.
BCG's work for one of the world's richest football clubs remains ongoing and its outcome is uncertain, with no guarantee that any of Arsenal's roughly 800-strong workforce will be directly affected by it.
One source speculated that the review was principally focused on the non-footballing aspects of Arsenal's operations.

The Gunners were the ninth-highest net spenders during the summer transfer window after signing players including the Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa.
The club also sold players such as Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli following its title-winning campaign.
If BCG's work does lead to cost cuts at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal will be keen to avoid the pitfalls which befell Manchester United after Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos Sport became an investor in the club.
Sir Jim enlisted consultants at Interpath to slash costs, resulting in cuts to charitable funding and long-serving staff which sparked fury among United's fanbase.
A spokesman for Arsenal declined to comment.
