Girl, 11, who died after incident near Edinburgh identified as Faith Curran

Police have identified an 11-year-old girl who died following an incident near Edinburgh.

The child, who was declared dead at the scene in the Gore Glen area, near Gorebridge, on Thursday afternoon, was named as Faith Curran by Police Scotland.

In a statement on Monday, the force said her body was found in the Gore Water near Shanks Bridge, around 10 miles south of Edinburgh, at around 4.25pm.

Her family, who have been informed, had reported her missing in the area at around 12.40pm.

They thanked those who helped in the search for her and asked that their privacy be respected, police said.

They described Faith as a "happy, adventurous, and outgoing girl who enjoyed life".

Her death is being treated as unexplained, but is not thought to be suspicious.

A police statement said enquiries remain ongoing and that a report will be sent in due course to Scotland's public prosecutor, the Procurator Fiscal.
