Milton Keynes Lightning are absolutely delighted to announce that club legend Lewis Christie will continue behind the bench as Assistant Coach for the 2026/27 season, working alongside Head Coach and Director of Hockey Pete Russell.
Christie, a cornerstone of the Lightning organisation, officially rejoined the team in September 2025 as Assistant coach. A long-time figure within the club, he holds the distinction of having iced more games than any player in Milton Keynes Lightning history, a huge 621. Christie celebrated with his testimonial in April 2023, 12 years after making the move from Scotland down to Milton Keynes.
During the 2025/26 campaign, Christie demonstrated remarkable versatility and commitment, stepping back onto the ice when the team was hit by injuries, providing valuable experience and leadership in critical moments.
In February 2026, Christie took on the role of Interim Head Coach, guiding the team through a key stretch of the season. His tenure got off to an emphatic start, highlighted by an impressive 8–2 victory over the Telford Tigers shortly after assuming the role. His leadership during this period was instrumental in stabilising the team and maintaining competitive performances, winning 9 of the remaining 11 league games.
Widely respected for his deep-rooted passion for the club and extensive playing experience, Christie’s continued presence behind the bench ensures continuity, culture, and a strong connection between the team’s past and future.
Head Coach Pete Russell commented:
“I am thrilled that Lewis and I will be working together next season. I have always had complete trust in him as a player, and now we will be coaching partners. He is calm, passionate, and has a deep understanding of people. As a legendary MKLer, he truly loves this club. I’m looking forward to sharing this experience with him.”
Lewis Christie added:
“It’s an honour to continue in this role with Milton Keynes Lightning. This club means everything to me, and I’m excited to work with the players and team Pete is building as we push forward next season.”
Further announcements regarding the 2026/27 roster will start after the MKLSC awards night.
