Red Bull confirm Isack Hadjar to return to drive for team at Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Red Bull have confirmed the return of Isack Hadjar to racing duties at this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix after the Frenchman missed three races through injury.

The 21-year-old suffered a wrist injury that reportedly occurred while boxing during a training camp in F1’s summer break, leading to the driver missing the last 3 rounds in the Netherlands, Italy and Spain.

With the injury now having been deemed sufficiently healed, Hadjar will return to his Red Bull seat at this weekend’s race in Baku, which represents the first of a triple header along with races in Malaysia and Singapore.

Hadjar’s return will see Liam Lawson return to Red Bull’s junior team Racing Bulls while Yuki Tsunoda will return to his duties as a reserve for both of Red Bull’s teams.

Lawson scored points in two of his three races deputising for Hadjar, as the New Zealander finished 7th in Zandvoort and 6th in Madrid. His Italian round at Monza would be less of a success as an engine penalty and car damage hindered his efforts on his way to a 10th place finish.

Hadjar has scored 71 points so far this season in his first with Red Bull and sits 8th in the Driver’s Championship. He has also been reclassified as taking a podium in Monaco after a hearing ruled Pierre Gasly’s penalty that denied him the podium should stand.
