MK Dons remain without league win after high-scoring draw at Wycombe

MK Dons are still without a win in League One this season after drawing an eventful game 3-3 with Buckinghamshire rivals Wycombe Wanderers.

In a match between two teams who had yet to win this season before kick-off, the home side had taken a two goal advantage into half-time through goals by Dan Casey and Ewan Henderson.

But the visitors would turn the game on its head when three goals in less than ten minutes saw them come back to take the lead, as Aaron Collins, Callum Paterson and Curtis Nelson struck for Paul Warne’s side.

Wycombe would pinch a point however when debutant Jayden Wareham struck to take the game back to 3-3, which is how it all finished.

A draw at Adam’s Park means that both sides remain winless so far this season, with the Dons have drawn four of their opening five outings.

MK Dons arrived seeking a reaction after a poor display saw them lose to Wigan last time out, but it wouldn’t be an ideal start for the visitors. Wycombe had already come close when Henderson was denied by Craig MacGillivray, before the visitors fell behind in the 11th minute.

Casey would do the honours for the hosts, as he met a Caolan Boyd-Munce cross and duly headed the ball home.

The visitors would begin to see more going forward, with Conor Hazard making stops to thwart Alex Gilbey and Sam Nombe, although Wareham would see a lob just bounce wide as Wycombe retained a threat.

The Chairboys would make it 2-0 just after the half-hour mark. Henderson would be first to a misplaced clearance and duly fired a drive into the back of the net.

But the state of the game would be turned on its head as MK Dons scored three goals in less than ten minutes to go from 2-0 down to 3-2 up.

Their first came six minutes after half-time, as substitutes Dan Crowley and Paterson combined to release Collins, who duly thumped home a drive via the crossbar.

A few moments later, the Dons had their equaliser when a Collins cross fell invitingly for Paterson to dab the ball beyond Hazard and bring the visitors level.

With 58 minutes on the clock, MK Dons duly took the lead for the first time in the game. Crowley’s cross found Nelson, who was duly able to head the ball home for his first of the new season.

Wycombe would however respond, grabbing an equaliser in the 73rd minute. Substitute Silko Thomas worked an inviting cross into the box that was met by Wareham, who duly forced the ball home for a debut goal after joining the Chairboys from Exeter on deadline day.

A fast-paced finale could’ve seen both sides pinch a winner. Former Dons man Emre Tezgel would be denied by MacGillivray, while Crowley saw a firm header in stoppage time narrowly miss the target.

As it was, the day would end all-square, with MK Dons’ quest for that first win rolling over to their next match, which will see Paul Warne’s side host Peterborough United.
