Luton confirm departure of striker Elijah Adebayo

Luton Town have confirmed the departure of striker Elijah Adebayo, who leaves the Hatters after over 5 years at the club.

The 28-year-old leaves after an eventful 5 years at Kenilworth Road, in which he helped Luton reach the Premier League and scored 10 goals during the Hatters’ Premier League adventure in the 2023/24 season.

In his time at Luton, Adebayo scored 47 goals in 184 matches, in a spell that began when he joined Luton from Walsall in 2021.

Adebayo’s recent seasons have however been severely disrupted by injuries, with Adebayo having played just 2 league games for the club since April 2025 after suffering knee and hip injuries.

Luton had originally opened talks to keep Adebayo at the club for the upcoming season, but with a deal not reached, Adebayo shall now part ways with the Hatters.

Luton said in a statement, “Today we say goodbye to a man we took to our hearts ever since he arrived late on transfer deadline night on 1st February 2021, as we confirm that the striker will leave us following the expiry of his contract.

“Elijah leaves Kenilworth Road with more than just a record of 47 goals in 184 games. He departs a modern-day Luton Town legend after playing a leading role in the most successful period of the club’s recent history.

“He will always be magic. You know. Thank you, Elijah Adebayo.”

In a statement on social media, Adebayo praised everyone involved in his time at Luton for helping him enjoy his spell with the club.

He said, “From the moment I arrived in 2021, I felt at home. The staff, my team-mates and especially the fans welcomed me straight away, and I’ll always be grateful for that.

“Pulling on the Luton shirt has been an honour every single time. We failed together, we achieved the impossible together, we lived out our most wild dreams together.

“To everyone at the club, thank you. From supporting me throughout my lowest moments, to celebrating our highest of highs. We are, and always will be, family.

“To the fans, thank you. You always welcomed me as one of your own, and I couldn’t be more thankful of the journey we went on together. Together we proved magic can happen.”
