Blaze breaks out at London tower block as multiple fire crews dispatched

Dozens of firefighters were dispatched to tackle a fire in a 17th-floor flat in London.

London Fire Brigade was called to the blaze in Poplar at 4.35am on Saturday.

"Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been called to a flat fire on Blackwall Way in Poplar," the brigade said.

Half of a property on the 17th floor of the 22-storey block of residential flats in Blackwall Way was damaged.

The blaze was brought under control by 6.41am.

London Fire Brigade said: "The brigade's 999 control officers were called at 04.35 and mobilised crews from Poplar, Whitechapel, Plaistow, Stratford, Shadwell, East Ham, East Greenwich, Bethnal Green and Greenwich fire stations.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation."
