Milton Keynes Lightning are delighted to announce the return of defenceman Edward Knaggs for the 2026/27 season, as the experienced blueliner prepares to make his comeback after an injury-disrupted campaign last season.

A product of the Milton Keynes hockey pathway, Knaggs has become a familiar and dependable figure in Lightning colours, earning a reputation as one of the league’s most composed and intelligent defensive players. As he enters his 10th year with MK Lightning, he has amassed 371 appearances for Milton Keynes Lightning, contributing 14 goals and 123 assists for 137 points from the back end.

Despite last season ending prematurely through injury, Knaggs remains a key part of the Lightning’s plans heading into the new campaign, with the club excited to welcome back a player whose calmness on the puck, vision and game management continue to make him a vital part of the roster.

Knaggs shared his excitement at returning to the team for the new season:

“I’m ecstatic to be back wearing a Lightning shirt next season! Last year I was struck with a season ending injury which was unfortunate, but I really appreciated everyone’s support. I’ll be back fully fit and stronger than ever in September. I’m excited to see the strength of our team next season and I can’t wait to be fighting for silverware alongside them and the best fans in the league!”

Lightning Head Coach Pete Russell is looking forward to working with Knaggs once again, having previously coached him earlier in his career.

“I’m delighted to have Knaggs back in the team after coaching him back in 2015-17. It was a difficult season this year for Ed with injury, but he’s a player who brings so much to our defensive core, calm, smooth, excellent first pass, reads the game really well. Our priority is getting him back to full fitness so he can be the player we know he can be. I’m looking forward to working with Ed again.”

Knaggs’ return adds further experience and stability to the Lightning defensive unit as preparations continue for the 2026/27 campaign. With a proven understanding of the club, strong leadership qualities and a determination to return stronger than ever, Lightning fans will be eager to see number 25 back on the ice in September.

The countdown to the new season starts now. Welcome back, Ed.

Knaggsy will continue to wear his number 25 jersey for the 2026/27 season. Supporters will have the opportunity to Own and Loan his jersey now.  Please email dave@b2promodesign.com, stating the jersey type – Light, Dark, Warm-Up or any.
