French DJ Kavinsky has died aged 50, the Paris prosecutor's office said in a statement.

He was found dead ‌in his home in the French capital on Tuesday evening, the prosecutor's office said.

The electropop musician, whose real name was Vincent Belorgey, performed at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics.

"An ‌inquiry into the cause of death has been ‌opened to determine the circumstances of the death, as first responders found no suspicious elements at the scene," the prosecutor said.

Kavinsky was perhaps best known for his 2010 song Nightcall, made famous by the film Drive, featuring Ryan Gosling.

He played the song at the finale of the 2024 Olympic Games.

French President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to the artist, saying in a post on Facebook: "Kavinsky, a source of pride for France forever."

French culture minister Catherine Pegard said on X: "With Kavinsky's sudden passing, France has lost one of its most distinctive voices.

"From the film Drive to the Paris Olympics, the whole world was captivated by 'Nightcall'. Both danceable and nostalgic, his music will continue to transcend generations and borders."
