MK Dons’ pre-season preparations continued with a split-friendly set-up, as they saw one side beaten by Arsenal and another beaten by Wealdstone.

The Dons saw one side take part in a friendly against Premier League side Arsenal at their training ground on the outskirts of London, while another headed to Ruslip to play the National League outfit.

At Arsenal’s base, a side overseen by Dons Head Coach Paul Warne suffered a 3-0 defeat to the Premier League champions. Reiss Nelson, Ethan Nwaneri and Ceadach O’Neill struck for a youth-heavy Arsenal side, for whom several key players remain on a break after participating in the World Cup.

As for a side overseen by Warne’s assistant Richie Barker and coach Dean Lewington, they lost 2-0 against the 5th tier side. Micah Obiero scored a first half opener, while a trialist for Wealdstone would poke in a second half strike.

The side at Wealdstone featured a second Dons debut for Sam Nombe, with the game coming a day after the former Dons striker confirmed his return after signing from Rotherham United.

MK Dons continue their pre-season schedule with another trip to the London area in midweek. On Tuesday night, they visit League 2 side Barnet, who the Dons drew 2-2 with at The Hive last season, with the game being the Dons’ second-to-last pre-season friendly.
