MK Dons announce arrival of Cardiff midfielder Ryan Wintle

MK Dons have signed midfielder Ryan Wintle, who will join the League One newcomers from Cardiff City.

The 29-year-old has signed a deal of undisclosed length at Stadium MK and becomes the Dons’ fourth new signing ahead of the new season, following the arrivals of Charlie Goode, Cohen Bramall and Dan Barlaser.

Wintle had been released by Cardiff despite winning the Bluebirds’ Player of the Year last season, with the midfielder being Cardiff’s captain last season and making 46 appearances in all competitions as the Welsh club won promotion from League One to the Championship.

Before signing for Cardiff in 2021, Wintle had spent time with Crewe Alexandra, while he also had loan spells with Blackpool and Millwall.

MK Dons Head Coach Paul Warne told the club’s official website that he was delighted to bring Wintle to Stadium MK.

He said, “Ryan’s a great player; he captained Cardiff to a promotion last year and also achieved their Player of the Year award.

“He has a real intent to his play and his athleticism allows him to cover the pitch really well.

“Although he’s a centre-mid, he has a lot of experience being a winger too back from when he was younger. He has the ability to put crosses into the box, adding attacking threat to his game with a great long-range threat as well.

“He’s a great character, and after speaking to two of his previous managers and a few of his former teammates, you could see his reputation was faultless.

“When I met him, I was impressed by his honesty and desire to play the game and win. Our midfield is currently a strong department, but we must keep improving the team and squad wherever possible.”
