Man hospitalised after explosion in Newton Longville on outskirts of Milton Keynes

A man was taken to hospital after an explosion destroyed a house in the village of Newton Longville on the outskirts of Milton Keynes.

The incident happened at around 9:45am yesterday (09/08) morning on Cobb Hall Road, with reports saying the bungalow was destroyed in a suspected gas-based explosion.

Footage from a doorbell camera adjacent to the site has been posted showing the moment of explosion and that the location was destroyed in the incident.

Fire and police services attended the situation, with confirmation coming that a man in his 60s was taken to hospital and a dog was taken to a vet for care.

Houses adjacent to the site were evacuated, with gas company SGN confirming checks had been performed in the area in the wake of the incident.

Thames Valley Police confirmed officers had attended the site of the incident and that they are working to support an investigation into what happened.

In a statement, they said, “Officers remain at the scene following the explosion of a property in Cobb Hall Road, Newton Longville, and are continuing to support the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which is leading the investigation into the cause.

“A man in his sixties remains in hospital receiving treatment for their injuries. We would like to thank the public for their patience while emergency services and partner agencies continue their work at the scene.”

Bucks Fire and Rescue confirmed that firefighters left the scene at approximately 11pm on Sunday night. The incident was handed over to Thames Valley Police and scene cordons remained in place overnight while investigations continued.

The fire service that covers the local area confirmed that four fire engines, a command unit, operational support unit and two officers attended were involved in their response to the situation to manage the situation.
