Former MK Dons coach Luke Williams dismissed as Peterborough boss

Former MK Dons coach Luke Williams has been dismissed from his position as manager of Peterborough United.

Williams leaves Posh after 11 months in charge, having replaced Darren Ferguson at London Road in October 2025. He won 18 out of 47 games in charge.

Peterborough have made a slow start to the current League One season, winning just one of their first seven games, although they have reached the Fourth Round of the Carabao Cup.

The decision to sack Williams was announced shortly after Peterborough suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Doncaster Rovers, in a result that leaves Posh in 23rd place in the early League One table. He is the second League One manager to leave his post so far this season, with Wycombe’s Michael Duff the other person to be fired so far this campaign.

In a statement, Posh said, “Peterborough United Football Club has today parted company with First Team Manager Luke Williams.

“On behalf of everyone at the Football Club, we would like to place on record our thanks to Luke for all his efforts during his time at the Weston Homes Stadium.

“This is not a decision the club has taken lightly. However, the team’s form in League One has not matched the Board’s expectations, particularly given the significant investment made in the squad, and following today’s performance against Doncaster Rovers the Board felt it had no other choice but to make a change.

“The club’s existing coaching staff will take charge of the first team squad while the Board considers its next steps.”

One of Williams’ last games in charge saw Posh take on MK Dons, with the two early strugglers playing out a 1-1 draw at Stadium MK earlier this month.

Williams spent time with MK Dons as an assistant to Russell Martin between 2019 and 2021, leaving with Martin when the now-Leicester manager moved to Swansea City. Williams left the South Welsh club to take the head coach position at Notts County, before a brief spell at Swansea as boss.

Peterborough’s next match sees them play Colchester in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night before they visit Stockport next week for a league match.
