Former MK Dons boss Karl Robinson has parted company with Salford City after the Ammies were defeated in the League Two play-off final.

Robinson leaves after two and a half years in charge of the side from the Greater Manchester area, with his last game in charge seeing Salford beaten 3-0 by Notts County in the League Two play-off final last week.

Salford had finished 4th in the regular League Two season, missing out on automatic promotion by one point.

In a statement, the club said, “Salford City Football Club can confirm that Karl Robinson will leave his position today as Head Coach with immediate effect.

“This decision has been reached unanimously by the Club’s Board and Executive team following a thorough review of the football operation.

“Karl has conducted himself throughout his time at Salford City with professionalism and integrity. He has worked tirelessly on behalf of the Club and has been fully dedicated to helping us achieve our ambitions, both on and off the pitch.

“These decisions are never easy, but we believe this is the right moment to make a change as we look ahead to the next chapter in Salford City’s development.

“On behalf of everyone connected with the Club, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Karl and his staff for their hard work and dedication. We wish Karl every success in the future.

“The process of appointing a new Head Coach will begin immediately, and we will provide a further update to supporters in due course.”

Robinson previously managed MK Dons for just over six years, which was his first spell as a full-time manager after previously assisting Paul Ince at Stadium MK. He managed six full seasons in charge before leaving in October 2016.

He remains the longest-serving manager in the Dons’ history, achieving a 43% win ratio with 147 wins from 346 games in charge, with highlights including winning promotion from League One to the Championship in the 2014/15 season, in a campaign that also saw the Dons beat Manchester United 4-0 in a Carabao Cup tie.
