Four people have been arrested after a 16-year-old boy died following a stabbing in Peterborough.

Police and paramedics were called to Riseholme, near the Ortongate shopping centre, just before 7pm on Sunday.

The boy was taken to hospital but died later in the evening.

An 18-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy from Peterborough are being held on suspicion of murder.

Two girls, aged 17 and 16, have also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. The younger girl is also being held on suspicion of having a bladed article.

Cambridgeshire Police said all the suspects remained in custody at Thorpe Wood police station.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Stott, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: "This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a young man, and we are in contact with his family and keeping them updated.

"While we understand the death will be concerning for local people, we do not believe this was a random attack, and there will be a significant police presence in the area over coming days."

Anyone with information or video of the attack is urged to contact police or get in touch anonymously via Crimestoppers.
