Calling local sculptors - beloved Linford Wood Art Trail set for revival!

The Parks Trust has launched an exciting opportunity for artists, calling for submissions to create a brand-new wooden sculpture in Linford Wood. This new commission marks the beginning of a reimagined sculpture trail that will evolve over the coming years.

The charity caring for Milton Keynes’ parks is seeking an inspiring and imaginative design that sparks curiosity, connects people with the natural world, and draws visitors into the newly designated Explorer Area on the edge of the ancient woodland.

Previous artworks in Linford Wood were created by local artist Jack Stephenson in the 1980s. His much-loved trail of carved sculptures made from old tree stumps brought animals, characters and mythological creatures to life. These sculptures have naturally decayed over time, becoming part of the woodland ecosystem and providing valuable habitats for minibeasts and fungi. Today, only two pieces remain - a face carved into a log and an owl nestled high in the trees.

Sarah Griffiths, Outdoor Learning and Interpretation Manager at The Parks Trust says “We’re really looking forward to reimagining the popular art feature and reviving the woodland’s sense of wonder, with visitors once again able to discover hidden treasures among the trees.”

Sculptors are invited to submit proposals that respond creatively to the landscape and heritage of Linford Wood, by Wednesday 24 June 2026.
