The reigning EFL Trophy holders Luton Town have found out they will be playing Peterborough and Colchester in the group stage of next season’s edition.

A pre-draw has seen Luton paired with the first two opponents in their group in the competition, which will be completed by a Premier League academy side in a follow-up draw conducted on Sky Sports News at 2:30pm tomorrow (25/06).

Luton are defending champions in the competition, having claimed the title with a 3-1 win over Stockport at Wembley back in April.

The first draw will see the Hatters take on their fellow League One side Peterborough, who finished 18th in the third tier last season, and Colchester, who came 12th in League Two in the 2025/26 campaign.

Luton’s opponents will see them take on an invited Premier League side’s academy team. The possible opponents are Arsenal, Brentford, Brighton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Ipswich and Spurs.

Tomorrow’s EFL Trophy completion draw comes on a busy day in the football world, with the day also seeing the announcement of next season’s fixtures and the Carabao Cup First Round.

The EFL will release next season’s Championship, League One and League Two fixtures at 12pm tomorrow, while the Carabao Cup First Round draw will take place at 4:30pm tomorrow on Sky Sports. For that, Luton are ball number 16.

It has previously been announced the Carabao Cup First Round will serve as this season’s curtain raiser, taking place on the weekend around Saturday 8 August, with League One’s opening day taking place the following weekend.
