New Mayor of Milton Keynes appointed by MK City Council

Councillor Paul Trendall has been officially appointed as the new Mayor of Milton Keynes.

Milton Keynes City Council confirmed Trendall as their new Mayor after their Annual General Meeting held last night (20/05), with the Liberal Democrat councillor succeeding James Lancaster after the former mayor resigned following the loss of his seat in local elections earlier this month.

A serving councillor with a strong record of public service and community involvement, Mayor Trendall moved to Milton Keynes in the late 1970s from London’s East End, first living in Fishermead before settling in Woolstone.

He was first elected as a city councillor in 2019 and was most recently re‑elected on 7 May to represent Campbell Park and Willen. Mayor Trendall has contributed to a wide range of council and community work, including serving on committees and supporting organisations such as the Cross and Stable Community Centre and Milton Keynes Citizens Advice. He has also represented the city on the Thames Valley Police and Crime Panel and previously served in the City Council Cabinet.

Mayor Trendall will continue to serve as Milton Keynes’ Armed Forces Champion since 2020, drawing on his own experience in the Royal Green Jackets, where he reached the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2 (RSWO).

Professionally, Mayor Trendall has spent much of his career in facilities management, particularly in corporate and transport security, and has held senior roles in the sector, including serving on the board of the International Professional Security Association.

As Mayor, his focus will be on being a champion for the city and celebrating its diverse communities by highlighting the work of local groups, cultures, faiths and charities that support residents.

Mayor Trendall has been married to Pauline for 46 years, who will serve as Mayoress and accompany him on official engagements. They have a daughter.

The Mayor’s chosen charity for his mayoral year is MK Foodbank, which provides essential emergency food and support to people in need across the city.

I look forward to meeting residents across the city and helping to celebrate the amazing work that takes place every day to support others and bring people together.”

Cllr Keith McLean has been appointed as Deputy Mayor for the municipal year.

The Mayor of Milton Keynes is a ceremonial and civic role, representing the city at official events and supporting local communities and organisations.
