Milton Keynes City Council has announced a roadworks project for new pedestrian crossings in Bletchley.

Work will begin from 23 March to install three new signalised pedestrian crossings on Princes Way and Albert Street in Bletchley.

The new crossings are intended to make it easier and safer for local people to travel from the town’s train and bus stations to the town centre.

To carry out the work, Princes Way will be closed to traffic between Saxon Street and Dukes Drive until late June.

This means the bus services 5/6/X2/X3 for the Bletchley area will be diverted around the closed area.

Services 5/6 towards Lakes Estate will run from Saxon Street (southbound) to Bletchley bus station, Duncombe Street and Water Eaton Road.

Meanwhile, services 5/6 towards CMK/Wolverton will run from Manor Road to Aylesbury Street, Watling Street, Saxon Street (southbound), Bletchley bus station and Saxon Street (northbound).

Services X2/X3 towards Dunstable/Luton will run from Saxon Street (southbound) to Bletchley bus station, Duncombe Street and Water Eaton Road.

As for X2/X3 services towards Central Milton Keynes, they will run from Water Eaton Road to Brooklands Road, Findlay Way, Queensway, Aylesbury Street, Watling Street and MK Stadium. These services will not call at Bletchley bus station.

The Transport Hub (Saxon Street) project is seeking to bring major improvements to space surrounding the bus and rail stations in Bletchley, with the project aligned with wider work on Queensway to upgrade public spaces, improve safety, and make the area more welcoming.

Cllr Jennifer Wilson‑Marklew, Cabinet Member for Transport, said, “These improvements will make it easier and safer for people to move between the town centre, the bus station, and the rail station. Installing new crossings is an important first step in creating a more accessible, welcoming environment for everyone who lives, works, or travels in Bletchley. We appreciate everyone’s patience while the work takes place.”

Future phases of the project will include reducing Saxon Street to a single carriageway, creating new redway links to join the wider network and encourage sustainable travel, enhancing the bus station, improving connections between the town centre and transport hubs and create conditions that may allow for a potential future eastern entrance to Bletchley railway station.

Full road closure and diversion details can be found on One.Network or on the major projects page of the City Council’s website.
