MK Dons made it 4 games without a win in League 2 as they drew 1-1 away at Oldham Athletic.
Marvin Ekpiteta had given the visitors a first half lead, which they held until conceding an 84th minute equaliser, as Oldham’s Mike Fondop got his header into the back of the Dons net.
The result means that while MK Dons remain second in the table, they remain under pressure in a tight fight for automatic promotion. Notts County are level with Paul Warne’s side on 74 points after they beat Newport County, while the Dons and Magpies are 2 clear of Cambridge after the U’s conceded a late equaliser at Cheltenham. Swindon are level on points with Cambridge after their win over Walsall, with Salford a point further back after they lost at Crewe.
Warne’s side will face a big test next time out when they are at home to league leaders Bromley, who the Dons are now 4 points behind ahead of the Ravens’ match at home to Shrewsbury tomorrow (07/04).
Having been held to a draw by struggling Barrow on Good Friday in the first part of the Easter double header, MK Dons looked to take victory over an in-form Oldham who had won 7 of their previous 8 matches.
But the Dons would open the scoring at Boundary Park after 29 minutes. Oldham failed to deal with a long ball forward by Dons keeper Craig MacGillivray, and Curtis Nelson’s cross found Ekpiteta, who glanced the ball home at the back post.
MK Dons had opportunities to pull further ahead, with Ben Wiles snatching a shot wide before Gethin Jones had a strike from a good position blocked.
In the second half, the Dons still had chances to make it 2-0, as Gethin Jones had a strike denied by home goalkeeper Mathew Hudson. Later on, Callum Paterson had a chance when he was played through but the Scot could only drag a shot wide of the post.
Oldham began to offer more as the contest went on, coming close when Craig MacGillivray denied Josh Hawkes.
It would be the Latics that grabbed the game’s second goal with 84 minutes on the clock, as Hawkes got space for a cross to pick out Fondop, who in turn headed into the back of the net.
The Latics could’ve made things more painful for the Dons late on, as MacGillivray made a brilliant save to deny Fondop, but it ultimately was a contest where each side would take a point.
