We took our 13-year-old son, 11-year-old daughter, and 7-year-old son to see Michael on Saturday, and it was a fantastic cinema experience for all of us.

The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s journey from a very young music star to becoming one of the most famous entertainers in the world. It highlights how much of his childhood was sacrificed in pursuit of perfection and success. The film doesn’t shy away from showing the pressure he faced from his father, who demanded flawless performances and placed enormous expectations on him from an early age.

What came across strongly was that despite the fame and stardom, Michael never lost his caring side. The film shows him taking time to visit sick children in hospital and how he often escaped into stories such as Peter Pan, which became a source of comfort between performances and tours. As his fame grew, so did the unusual aspects of his life, including his famous pets such as Bubbles the chimpanzee and even a giraffe. Some of the most touching moments were those showing Michael spending simple evenings watching films and eating popcorn with his mother.

As his brothers grew older, the film portrays the growing distance between them, while Michael gradually became his own man, helped by a new manager and increasing independence.

The music and sound throughout the film are outstanding. The real star of the movie, however, is Michael’s nephew, who plays Michael Jackson. His performance is exceptional. From the voice and mannerisms to the dancing, body language, and character portrayal, there were moments when it genuinely felt like you were watching Michael Jackson himself.

The impact of the film was obvious when we left the cinema. Our 7-year-old was attempting the moonwalk, tipping his hat, and dancing around the foyer, while several other customers were doing exactly the same. It was wonderful to see how Michael’s music still inspires people of all ages.

The film takes a serious approach and presents Michael Jackson as a hardworking perfectionist rather than simply focusing on the glamour of fame. While it provides a great insight into his life, there are areas that were largely left out, including the court cases and legal controversies, which some viewers may feel deserved more attention.

Overall, Michael is an engaging, emotional, and entertaining film with incredible music and a remarkable lead performance. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or simply interested in the story behind one of the world’s biggest stars, it’s well worth watching.

Score: 9/10 7 year old score “1000 Billion”
