The fast-growing Milton Keynes community group has taken home a top honour at this year’s MK BAA Awards, highlighting its impact on both local businesses and residents.
Solo Connects has been awarded Best Micro Business at the Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards 2026 where the theme was “The Power of Partnerships: Come together to achieve more.”
Solo Connects was named Best Micro Business, with the award presented by Mayor James Lancaster. The organisation was also shortlisted in the Leisure, Entertainment & Hospitality category, marking a strong showing among a competitive field.
Launched in October 2024 from a simple idea and a Facebook group, Solo Connects has quickly developed into one of the city’s fastest-growing friendship and dating communities. The initiative supports single people across Milton Keynes, offering opportunities to connect socially while helping to combat loneliness.
Judges praised the organisation’s contribution to the local economy, noting its role in driving repeat business into the leisure and hospitality sector. They also highlighted its strong partnership approach, working closely with venues across the city.
Since its launch, Solo Connects has supported 30 local venues and generated more than £70,000 in revenue for businesses including pubs, bars and restaurants. The group has also collaborated with DJs, print companies and venue decorators to create inclusive and engaging events.
Co-founder Samantha Poole described the win as a major milestone. She said the journey from organising small meet-ups to receiving recognition among established businesses was “truly incredible”, adding that partnerships have been central to the organisation’s success.
Fellow co-founder Rachel Allen echoed those sentiments, praising the wider business community and the group’s members. She said the award reflects the energy and support of those who attend events, as well as the venues and suppliers who have backed the initiative from the beginning.
Beyond its commercial success, Solo Connects aims to deliver wider social impact by helping people build confidence and form meaningful connections in real-world settings. Its community-focused approach continues to play a growing role in supporting both individuals and the local hospitality sector.
The founders also thanked the awards organisers, judges and Mayor James Lancaster, along with their partners and community members, for their ongoing support.
