Northampton Town have parted company with the club’s first team manager Kevin Nolan, who leaves after a run of 1 win in 16 league games.
Nolan leaves Sixfields after 15 months in charge of the Cobblers. He won 22 out of 70 games in all competitions, having taken over after the resignation of Jon Brady. Nolan kept Northampton up last season, but leaves after a collapse in form left Northampton 23rd in the table with just 10 games of the season remaining.
Northampton confirmed that the club’s Technical Director and former manager Colin Calderwood will take charge on an interim basis, with Ian Sampson taking the role of assistant.
The club’s Chairman Kelvin Thomas thanked Nolan for his efforts at the club in a statement on their official website, but felt that the results had left the club with no choice except to make an alternative.
He said, “We are sorry to have to take this decision, but unfortunately as we all know, football is very results based.
“We will always be grateful to Kevin for his hard work here, he helped keep us up last season and we enjoyed a strong first half of this season but since Christmas the sequence of performances and results have led us to believe a change is in the best interests of all concerned.
“We are fortunate to have someone of Colin’s experience, supported by Ian Sampson and the rest of the staff to look after matters on an interim basis.
“Kevin leaves with our thanks and our best wishes and we wish him well for the future.”
