Isle of Man TT Races: Eight spectators and rider taken to hospital after crash

Eight people were taken to hospital after a motorbike rider crashed into a crowd of spectators on the opening day of practice in the Isle of Man TT Races. 

The rider was also taken to hospital following the incident, which organisers said occurred on the exit of Parliament Square in Ramsey on Monday.

In a statement, organisers said all those receiving treatment were reported as conscious, while the rider suffered "leg injuries" but was "conscious and talking".

It said that a red flag - meaning an immediate halt to the session - had been issued at 1.30pm and that "serious incident response procedures" were enacted.

The organisers also confirmed that "an investigative process is now under way involving race, medical and safety personnel".

It comes after a rider was killed during a pre-event race on the island on Sunday.

Alan Oversby, 68, died in an incident on the approach to Ballakeighan on the second lap of the Pre-TT Classic Road Races.

Southern 100 Road Races said it wished to "extend their deepest sympathy to Alan's wife Julie, family, team and friends".

The Isle of Man TT races, an annual two-week festival that takes place on public roads closed for racing, is widely regarded as the "most dangerous" event in motorsport, with rider fatalities a regular occurrence.

In 2022, six competitors died over the course of the festival - the highest number of casualties at a single event since 1970.

No rider deaths were recorded in 2025, although two competitors were involved in crashes and were forced to withdraw due to injury.

More than 250 people are believed to have died on the course since the inaugural festival in 1907, leading to calls for the event to be banned.

The Isle of Man government has previously said the races, which attract tens of thousands of people each year, help to generate millions for the local economy.
